Questions Carriers Always Ask

Real answers to real questions — no marketing fluff.

We charge a flat 5% of your gross load rate — nothing else. No setup fees, no monthly minimums, no hidden charges. If you haul a $2,000 load, you pay $100. If we have a slow week and you run fewer miles, you pay less. We only make money when you make money, which means we're always motivated to find you the best freight.

Absolutely — 100% no forced dispatch. This is a non-negotiable principle at Greenlight. You are the owner-operator and it's your truck. If a load doesn't work for your schedule, preferred lanes, home time requirements, or just doesn't pay enough, you say no and we find something better. We will never pressure you to take a load you're not comfortable with.

No. You keep your own authority, MC number, and operating rights. Greenlight acts as your dispatcher — we find loads and negotiate rates on your behalf using your authority and your name. We're not a motor carrier. We don't add you to our authority. Your business remains completely independent, and you can work with other services or dispatch yourself at any time.

We have subscriptions to DAT (featured member), Truckstop.com, 123Loadboard, and Direct Freight. Beyond load boards, we've built direct relationships with regional and national brokers including CH Robinson, Echo Global Logistics, Coyote Logistics, Convoy, and over 50 smaller brokerage operations. Direct broker relationships often mean better rates and faster booking than what you'll find on public boards.

Most new carriers are loaded within 24–48 hours of completing onboarding. The onboarding process itself takes about 15–20 minutes — we collect your authority info, preferred lanes, equipment specs, and rate targets. Once we have that, we start sourcing immediately. Many of our carriers get their first load offer the same day they sign up.

Yes, we work with carriers who have new MC authority. You will need to have your operating authority active (not pending) and adequate insurance ($750K+ general liability for dry van, more for hazmat). We do require that you've completed your DOT requirements including a valid CDL (for Class A equipment). Many brokers require 30–90 days of authority age — our team knows which brokers work with newer carriers and will source loads accordingly.

Getting started is simple. We need: your MC number and DOT number, a copy of your operating authority, your Certificate of Insurance (naming our dispatching service as a certificate holder), your W-9, equipment details (truck type, year, trailer type, dimensions), preferred lanes or home state, and your rate targets. You'll also sign our Dispatcher-Carrier Agreement, which is straightforward and non-exclusive. The whole process takes about 15–20 minutes.

After each load is delivered and invoiced to the broker, we deduct our 5% fee from the gross rate. You receive the remaining 95% via ACH direct deposit to your business bank account, typically within 1–3 business days of the broker paying. We provide a weekly settlement statement showing all loads hauled, gross rates, our fee, and your net pay. No surprise deductions, no delayed payments, no float games.
